PE & Sport Premium

Sports Premium Funding at Hertford Heath Primary & Nursery

The government provides additional funding of £150 million per year in order to improve the provision of physical education (P.E.) and sport in primary schools. This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Median and Sport – is allocated to primary schools. This money is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of P.E. and sport in schools.

At Hertford Heath we spend the Sports Premium Funding on improving the provision and standard of P.E. and sport.

As a school we take pride in being able to provide a wide range of opportunities in P.E. and Sport across the key stages. Thanks to the staff employed at Hertford Heath, we are able to offer a variety of after school sports clubs including netball, football, dance, multi-sports and gymnastics.

Our allocation of the Sports Premium Funding goes towards our spending on PE.  At our school we:

  • employ a member of support staff as our subject leader for PE and have provided Level 5 (during 2014-15) and level 6 (during 2015-16) PE training for her.
  • are members of the Hertford & Ware Sports Partnership.  This ensures that our children are able to access the full range of PE and sporting activities on offer within our area and also ensures training is provided to our staff. This membership allows us to take part in a variety of sports competitions without paying additional fees.   We take part in the football and netball league, the athletics and multi-skills festivals at Wodson Park and the dance festival at Castle Hall. Talented pupils are also given the opportunity to work with other talented children.
  • have purchased new P.E. equipment to provide more opportunities within lessons and at play/lunchtimes and after school.

All of the above provides our pupils with opportunities to compete and participate in a range of sporting events.

PE Information

At Hertford Heath School we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of all children. As part of the Hertfordshire & Ware School Sports Partnership (H&WSSP) we have access to a variety of PE and sporting experts, resources and competitions for the benefit of our children.

We currently offer extra-curricular activities such as a football club, netball club, Gymnastics club as well as Multi-sports. We run a Change4Life club during lunchtimes. Our children have swimming lessons from year 1 through to year 6 and we have the opportunity to offer catch up lessons for those children still unable to swim 25m after this time.

During our lunch time we have Young Leaders (year 6 children) who encourage children in KS1 to lean about and enjoy experimenting with different resources such as skipping, ball handling and many others.
