Homework

In order for the children to make the most progress during Year 2, we ask for your support in the following areas at home.

Reading: please read every day with your children, just 5 or 10 minutes is enough. Record in their reading record each time you read and comment when the book needs changing. We will aim to change the books three times a week.

Handwriting / spelling: the children will be given weekly spellings on a Thursday, ready for a spelling test on the following Thursday. Please ensure the children are practicing these at home.

Maths: we follow a programme called Big Maths, this involves learning by heart a set of number facts each term. The children spend a week focusing on one fact and by the end of the term they should be able to recall all the facts. I will send a sheet of the facts home every week for the children to practice at home. The children will take part in a weekly test to track their progress.

Rebecca Rabbit: We are very lucky in Year 2 to have a class teddy called Rebecca. Rebecca is our reading rabbit and loves to listen to stories. Throughout the year, different children will be chosen to take Rebecca home for a few days at a time to make sure she always has someone to read her a bedtime story. When it is your child's turn, please email me a few photos of Rebecca enjoying the stories for our class book and encourage your child to complete the simple task of completing the book review sheet.
