Class Photos

Computing - Our new topic, Online Safety, was explored through the use of editing images. We discussed how images can be altered on the internet to show something that isn’t true. The children then had a chance to take a photo of themselves and edit it to digitally to show how easy we can!

Maths - Our new unit is on fractions. We started the week by looking at a fraction wall to recall equivalent fractions. The children were able to identify equivalent fractions because they would align with each other on the fraction wall. Afterwards, we looked at the abstract element of this. The children were able to say the multiplicative relationship between the fractions which made them equivalent.

PE - During this lesson, we started our new topic on gymnastics. The children looked at different types of balances and then we started to look at symmetrical and asymmetrical balances. In groups, the children then created a routine considering these elements.

Literacy - Continuing on with our poetry topic, the children learnt all about cinquain poems and their specific structure. They then collaboratively created their own cinquain poem related to the War, making sure to follow the syllable structure of 2-4-6-8-2.

Maths - During our multiplication and division topic, we used place value charts and place value counters to support our understanding of multiplying and dividing by 10/100,1000

Geography - During our Alps unit, we explored atlases to allow us familiarity with this resource. The children found the Alps on a map of Europe and then worked out which hemisphere the Alps was in.

Literacy - We have started our new topic on poetry. To start the week off, we looked and annotated different types of poems to get us thinking about poetry devices.

Art - During Art week. We explored space imagery alongside the history of the space race. We researched our main artist, Teis Albers, and based our art work on his creativity.

Music - The children have been learning how to play the ukulele with Miss Todd. They have been learning how to hold a ukulele, how to strum on a ukulele and the different chords. They have then applied his knowledge to different songs.

Maths - During our multiplication and division topic, we have been using multi link cubes and counters to create arrays. We have been looking at: multiples, common multiples, factors, common factors and prime numbers. The children used the resources to show each of these mathematical elements.

Science - This week, the children participated in a science experiment looking at gravity. We had four bags that contained different items. The children tested the force of gravity by measuring these items with a Newton meter.

PE - We have been continuing our netball lessons. The children have applied their skills into netball matches.

Literacy - The children took part in a conscience alley. We looked at a personal dilemma that the main character to our story is facing. They were then divided into two groups: agree and disagree. The children then had to argue their points to the opposing side.

Literacy - The children had a lesson all about the history of tea and we got to try different types of tea. This is because our new core text is called, ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’.

Literacy - These our the final non-chronological reports about our invented monsters.

Science - This week, we continued our topic of ‘Forces’. We completed an experiment on water resistance. We had three different shaped objects (made out of BluTac), we predicted which object was most streamlined which means it has the less amount of water resistance. We then put our theory to test.

Science - We tested air resistance through a parachute experiment. Each parachute had a different surface area which affected how quickly it fell to the ground.

Literacy - Year 6 came and shared their scary narratives with us, which was lovely!

PE - We have been continuing our netball skills and applying our footwork and passing techniques into small 4V4 matches.

RE - We continued our learning of pilgrimages. During this lesson, the children explored pilgrimages in a variety of religions: Islam, Hinduism, Judaism and Buddhism.

Computing - We looked at a traffic algorithm and then made instructions for the different steps. Afterwards, the children used their instructions to apply code to a programme that showed the process of traffic lights.

Science - Our experiment this week was all about investigating air resistance. We planned and conducted an experiment using two types of paper: flat and scrunched. We tested whether the different sized surface areas would have an impact on how fast the paper fell to the ground,

PE - We have been continuing our learning of netball skills, including our footwork rules and our passing techniques,

Science - We investigated the force friction. We tested an ice cube and a plastic cube to see which object would go down the wooden ramp first.

PE - The children have started their unit on Netball. In our first lesson, we looked at three different types of passes: chest pass, shoulder bass and bounce pass.

Literacy - This week, we have been exploring non-chronological reports through our core texts. The children read different reports on mythical creatures and annotated them by finding different features of a non-chronological report.

Maths - We have been recalling prior knowledge on Roman numerals. The children played a game of match to show their understanding of numerals and Roman numerals.
