In Maths, we've been focusing on measurement. We have been learning about measuring in cm’s. We found things in our classroom to measure and ensured our ruler started at 0 cm’s.

Year 2 have loved dressing up for World Book Day! We wore lots of different costumes  from our favourite books.

In maths, we have been learning how to divide through grouping and sharing. First, we used the counters to put them into groups of a certain amount and then we moved onto sharing the counters between groups. The children then moved onto dividing with tens by using the base ten. They've been working so hard this week and have all enjoyed learning about division!

In Geography, we have been learning about our wonderful world. We were exploring our local habitat and the animals and plants that live in it. We went outside to see how many different bugs and plants we could find and put our results into a tally chart.

In RE, we have been learning about the Ten Commandments. We know that they are rules Christian's and Jews follow. We explored each rule in detail and ordered the rules from the ones we thought were most important to the ones we thought were the least important. We then wrote our own 10 commandments.

In Maths, we have started to learn about money. We were exploring the value of different coins and using 'more than' and 'less than' to compare amounts.

In Literacy, we have been learning about Rapunzel by Beth Woollvin. It is a different version of the original tale where Rapunzel goes against the witch. The children have been describing Rapunzel using expanded noun phrases.

In maths, we have been learning about symmetry. We know that you need two equal parts and practised this by using paper. We then had half a shape drawn and we had to draw the other half to make it symmetrical. We had to be very careful at counting how many squares along and up we had to go.

In Maths, we have been learning about shapes. We have been counting the sides and vertices of 2D shapes. We used lollipop sticks to make shapes and understand how many sides and vertices they've got.

In Literacy, we have been learning about writing letters about finding a dragon in our house! We role played the main character and the animal welfare centre from our book to ask for advice on how to look after the dragon. We had to describe the dragon and explain the naughty things it had been doing in the house!

In Literacy, we have been learning about different sentence types. We have been focusing on command, question and statement sentences. We sorted the sentences in the correct categories ready for when we write letters based on our book Dragon Post.

In Science, we have been learning about germs. We explored how they can spread through coughing and sneezing and that we have to make sure we wash our hands. We made our own disease out of glitter and mixed it with shaving foam. We high-fives our friends to show how germs spread, we then had to practice washing our hands well to ensure all the glitter came off.

In maths, we've been learning about how to add 2 2-digit numbers. We used base ten to lay the numbers out on our boards and put the corresponding place value cards underneath. We then added our base ten together to get the total.

In Literacy, we have been focusing on poetry. We listened to a poem called Tell Me Mama by John Lyons which asked unusual questions. We made our own question poems up and performed them to the class.

In Literacy, we have been preparing to write some instructions on how to be a good friend. We looked at some different scenarios and got into groups to act them out. We demonstrated sharing, being kind he helping someone if they fell over. After this, we created our own scenarios and wrote them on our boards.

In Maths, we have been learning how to count in threes. We made a tower of three using the cubes. We kept adding three on to help us know which number comes next.

In Science, we have been learning about different animals and their needs for survival. This week we focused on fish. We learnt that they need food, water, shelter and aid to survive. We looked closely at the parts of a fish and learnt that the gills help them to breathe and get air. We made our own fish out of paper plates and included the key parts of their bodies.

In Maths, Year 2 have been practising their partitioning skills. We were given a number and had to find 3 different ways to partition it. We worked in partners to use Base Ten and cherry models to help us.

This week, we have been introduced to our new literacy book, The Frog and the Stranger. We explored the events throughout the story and focusing on the way the characters feel. We wrote statement sentences and sentences with conjunctions in to explain what is happening in the story.
