Silent Movie

Silent Movies

A hundred years ago, movies were very different to the movies we know and love today. Below are two films starring two famous actors from that time, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Please watch both of these videos and write down how they compare to the films of today.

Buster Keaton - " Seven Chances "

Charlie Chaplin - The Lion's Cage

Now It's Your Turn!

You are now going to make your very own silent movie titled 'Home Schooling'. This should be a film on what a typical day of home schooling is like - but with a twist. Similar to other silent movies from that time, you have to add a comical aspect to make it both funny and engaging (i.e. exaggerated body language). Remember movies were silent back then, so you will have to use captions to say what you want to say.

To film this short movie, download the app 'Silent Film Studio' (https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/silent-film-studio/id447304552). You will need to play around with the app first to understand how it works but it is pretty straight forward. Have fun with this project and don't do anything dangerous in the process (Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin were professionals). Once you have finished, feel free to upload your silent movies to the school's Facebook page.

I look forward to seeing them.
