Keep that noise down!

In science, Year 5 have been investigating which is the best material for reducing sound.

Groups planned an investigation where they created a buzzer circuit, and then covered it differet materials. They then measured how far away they could still hear the buzzer to see which material was best. We also found out that some people's hearing is better than others!

Film stars arrive at school!

Hertford Heath was graced by a visit from Neil Lee Bigg and Fay Moss, stars of the recent blockbuster 'Larry Rotter and the Professor's Gnome'

As part of our topic on writing reports, Year 5 held a press conference with imaginary child film stars Neil Lee Bigg and Fay Moss. Journalists from around the country came to ask questions in preparation for writing a magazine article. Let's hope fame hasn't gone to the young starlets' heads.

Myths and Maths

Children were set the task to design and create their own boardgame, incorporating their knowledge of Greek myths.

Children enjoyed developing their own labyrinth boardgames. They enjoyed even more the part where they were able to play them with each other during Maths Week.

Hats for Haiti

Hertford Heath made sure they thought of others when they thought of ways to support the disaster appeal for Haiti.

As part of our fundraising for those suffering in Haiti, Hertford Heath had a 'Hats for Haiti' day. All children were asked to make or wear a hat of their choice and donate a pound to help a good cause. Thank you to all who helped and took part.

Fun in the snow

The snow may have brought its problems in January, but it didn't dampen the spirits of children in the school. We enjoyed making snowmen and playing in the snow.

European Day of Languages

Guten Morgen, wie geht's?

Year 5 each chose a European country, researched it and painted its flag. We also focused on the German language and learnt a few songs that are sung in German primary schools.
